The discount attaches to the duct cleaning. Fogging and exhaust fans go at full rate, which belongs on a website rather than being deduced from an invoice.

Count your own openings first
Two minutes walking your house, and every conversation you have about this afterward is a different one.
Find everything tied to the heating and cooling. Supplies blow air out, mostly in ceilings, one or two per room. Returns draw air in, sit somewhere central, and are noticeably larger.
Total them, multiply by $55.25, and you have the figure before anything optional.
If a company will not quote from that number and insists on coming out first, they have left themselves somewhere to land.

Several systems, one rate
This is where Scottsdale differs from most of the Valley, and it is worth understanding before anybody quotes you.
A great many houses here run two, three or four separate HVAC systems. Upstairs and down, a guest wing, a casita, sometimes a detached office.
Under per-system pricing, which is what most of this industry uses, that is how a quote triples. Every additional unit is another system charge, and the definition of a system is theirs rather than yours.
Under per-opening pricing it changes nothing. An opening costs $55.25 whichever handler feeds it, so a thirty-opening house on three systems costs exactly what a thirty-opening house on one costs.
The one place system count genuinely matters is the optional fogging, which is priced per HVAC unit. Three systems means $480 rather than $160, and you should decide that deliberately.
Why per opening rather than per house or per system
Because it is the only figure you can check before anybody turns up.
Square footage pricing sounds objective and cannot be audited by you. Two houses of identical size can have very different opening counts.
Per-system pricing is the one that costs Scottsdale homeowners the most, because so many houses here run several units. Every additional handler becomes another system charge, under a definition that belongs to the company rather than to you.
Per opening takes two minutes to count and cannot be reinterpreted. That is the entire reason for it.

When it is worth doing at all
A universal interval would be a guess. What genuinely exists are circumstances that justify the work, and Scottsdale produces a particular set of them.

- Dust visibly leaving the registers at start-up
- An odor nobody can place
- Rodent or insect evidence anywhere in the system

Absent all of that, with a decent filter changed on schedule, you may well not need this, and that is what you will hear.
